buren

shoe/farm

For shoe/farm, buren once again explores social roles and power relations. This time they start from their own roots: a farm in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen and a shoe shop along the Belgian coast. They engage with customs, practices and specific sayings connected to farm life and shoe sales. They link their personal experience to broader social issues around production processes, working conditions and consumerism. The worlds of the "shoe" and the "farm" merge together. With Benne Dousselaere (sound) and Vera Martins (light), buren looks at what position the audience can occupy within this imagination. They perform different roles: from shoemaker, farmer and servant to servant and consumer, from family business to chain.

shoe/farm is a work that manifests itself in different phases and forms. The performance 7 Means Dinner for a Breadwinner (Lustwarande Tilburg, 2022) was a first step in this with its focus on farm life. In shoe/farm, both worlds now converge. During Playground, the audience sits in and around the scenography and various musical scenes unfold.
