A Case of Stairs

Wim De Pauw unfolds the matter of language in and through different spaces, with an interest in the gaps and gasps, semiotic shifts through moving and being moved, where presence and absence seem to coincide. The performative installation A Case of Stairs (2023) pushes the boundaries of the cinematic experience. Taking The Spiral Staircase (1946) as material, the film is stripped of its image and dialogue. Evocative sounds resonate within the architectural confines of the museum’s staircase. Each visitor becomes an unwitting actor in an unscripted scenario.
