Would you like to hone your skills in writing about performance, at the exciting intersection of the performing and visual arts? Pzazz is coming to Playground with a review-writing workshop.

For the first time? No: once again, review platform Pzazz and Playground are offering five to ten adventurous spectators and aspiring writers the chance to immerse themselves in critical writing. It is a unique opportunity to experience Playground from the front row and exchange ideas with artists and fellow reviewers.

We believe that talking and writing about art enriches the experience. That is why the people behind Pzazz are sharing their expertise with others who are curious to find out, through hands-on experience, whether reviewing performance is something for them.

The group will attend performances together, meet several artists, take part in Nick Steur’s workshop, and discuss what everyone sees, understands – or perhaps does not understand. Everyone will also write a review and discuss it with the group. In this way, we learn from one another: about how to put art into words, but also about how to think about it. In short: an intensive, but above all inventive weekend!

The workshop is led by Pieter T’Jonck and Zhana Ivanova.

• Zhana Ivanova has built an impressive practice as a performance artist since graduating from DasArts Amsterdam, and subsequently became a resident at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. Drawing on her expertise as an artist and teacher, she offers insight into how performance artists work and think.
• Pieter T’Jonck has been writing about theatre, dance, architecture and visual art for a wide range of media in Belgium and abroad since 1979, alongside his work as an architect. In 2018, he founded the review platform Pzazz, where he continues to write and also contributes to the editorial process.

The workshop costs €50, which includes tickets to all performances and several meals.

If you have written anything previously, you are very welcome to send up to three texts along with your application, to give us an idea of what you have to offer.

You will be notified by 1 November at the latest whether you have been selected.
