Time has fallen asleep in the afternoon sunshine
For Time has fallen asleep in the afternoon sunshine a group of people memorise a book of their choice. Together they form a small collection of living books. The ‘books’ can be found in the library: they walk around, talk to each other, read ‘real’ (paper) books and ... are ready to be ‘read’ by a visitor. The library visitor chooses a title and the ‘living book’ takes its reader to a quiet place in the library or outside for a walk. Meanwhile, the ‘book’ recites its contents for the visitor.
This ‘library of living books’ is inspired by Ray Bradbury’s science fiction novel Fahrenheit 451 which describes a future society in which books are banned because they are considered dangerous; it’s believe that happiness must be obtained through an absence of knowledge and individual thought. Fahrenheit 451 refers to the temperature at which paper books start to burn. In the book, an underground resistance movement arises with its members memorising books for their future preservation.
