Care to Carry

Workshop. Care to Carry is a four-hour experience that begins with an indoor physical workshop. Here, you’ll get to know your stone and the other participants, and learn how to carry your stone on your head. You’ll soon discover that the group has to ‘carry’ one another by following and leading at the same time.

Walkshop. The journey then moves outdoors, into the city centre and Museum M. Despite all the stimuli coming your way, Nick Steur invites you to find a sense of calm amid the hustle and bustle of the city through the act of carrying the stone. The intense focus this requires allows you to tune out your nervous system’s habitual responses, broaden your sensory awareness and develop a heightened sensitivity to the physical and spatial presence around you. In this context, processing images and sounds slowly becomes an artistic experience. The lights and sounds of the city turn into a cinematic experience.

Like a close-knit collective — a flock of birds or a school of fish — we move through the urban landscape with a shared choreography: as performers, as one organic body. Undisturbed, yet at the same time inspired by this collective experience, you are challenged to find balance and mindfulness at the heart of the city’s chaos.

Talkshop. After the walk, there is time to share your experience with one another and the artist in a warm and welcoming setting. You exchange unexpected perspectives and strengthen the connection within this unique group of participants.

Please note: on festival days, you may encounter Care to Carry between 4pm and 5pm at STUK, Museum M and in the surrounding streets.
